Vilhelm Wohlert: The Mastermind Behind Iconic Danish Design

Born in Copenhagen in 1920, Vilhelm Wohlert is a name synonymous with timeless Danish design, leaving an indelible mark on the world of furniture through his iconic creations. His designs embody his philosophy that furniture should not only serve a functional purpose but also enhance the aesthetic experience of a space.

Since 2012, Stellar Works has been reissuing Wohlert's archival designs, dedicated to continuing the legacy of these mid-century classics. Through meticulous craftsmanship and a deep respect for Wohlert's vision, Stellar Works ensures that his masterpieces remain as relevant and captivating today as they were in the mid-20th century.

Vilhelm Wohlerts pared-down furniture designs reflect a unique understanding of the structural interplay of design elements where nothing is left to chance. Indeed much the same can be said of his unaccentuated architectural design of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

Among his most celebrated furniture designs is the Piano Chair, noted for its sculptural qualities that embody Wohlert’s less-is-more ethos. Another beloved creation is the Louisiana Chair, named after the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Its clean lines and refined simplicity perfectly complement the museum's architectural aesthetic.

The Triangle Chair is an exemplary piece that showcases Wohlert's innovative approach to design. Specifically created to provide visitors with a comfortable place to pause, relax, and admire the landscape of the museum, it stands as a testament to Wohlert's ability to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal.
